2009/10/13 Lunch

From 2009/10/13 Lunch

Came home with Mai to cook. Always nicer to have someone to cook for. The sauce is store-bought tomato sauce with extra frozen vegetables, shrimp, garlic, dill, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, and olive oil.

I was lazy and mixed everything together. I should have kept the tomato sauce separate but it was still ok. Mai seemed happy enough.

2009/10/07 Supper

From 2009/10/07 Supper

Everything to make a nice open-face sandwich. Vine tomatoes, thin cut honey ham, whole wheat french bread and cream cheese.

It was a nice, light meal. A little dull, but tasty, and pretty good for me too.

2009/10/07 Breakfast

From 2009/10/07 Breakfast

Simple pancake, from scratch. The maple syrup is from Josh's wedding. Thanks for that.

It was just what I wanted. I made one huge one instead of many small ones to make sure I didn't have any left overs. I like them thick, and not as cooked in the middle. Hmmm, also how I like my steak.

2009/10/07 Supper

From 2009/10/07 Supper

Filling from scratch! Put a pumpkin in the oven for an hour, scoop out the filling and put it in a blender. Mix in spices. Pour into tart pastries, or a pie crust, then cook. Easy (but time consuming).

This is my favorite dessert. They were still warm in this picture. Whipped cream topped it off perfectly. Yum.

2009/10/02 Lunch

From 2009/10/02 Lunch

Shrimp, beans, and carrots simmered in hoisin sauce, soy sauce, garlic, dill and olive oil. All on a bed of rice. Similar to (past of) the previous dish.

This was a big pile on top of the rice, even though it doesn't really show here. I thought it might be too dry, but it worked well.

2009/09/29 Lunch

From 2009/09/29 Lunch

Yin Yang pasta. One side a creamy white sauce with cheese and garlic. The other meat balls, beans, and carrots simmered in hoisin sauce, soy sauce, dill and more garlic. Put over spaghetti, intended to be mixed while eaten.

Honestly, I was surprised this worked, but it really did. The two sides stood alone ok, but when mixed it was just great.

2009/09/24 Supper

From 2009/09/24 Supper

Estefania made a spaghetti dish, including quite a bit of milk. Tomatoes and cheese were also included.

It was a bit liquidish, but tasted quite good. Unlike anything I've made before. A bit more reducing, or maybe some starch, and I'd have liked it even more. This is quite good for someone who hasn't cooked much.

2009/09/22 Night

From 2009/09/22 Night

I didn't make this, but I have it so much, I think it should be in here. Bubble tea. In this case, served hot. It may have bubble or jelly at the bottom.

I have this about once a week. I don't want to think how much money has gone towards this drink. Maybe I could be debt free if I had water every time instead of this.

2009/09/22 Supper

From 2009/09/22 Supper

Salmon sushi roll. Raw salmon from Loblaws, rice, cucumber and rice paper. Soy sauce with Wasabi is there also.

This turned out so well and isn't much work if you're willing to spend 50% more on skinned/boneless salmon, which I am usually not. Estefania attempted this with the rice on the outside, but it worked less well. I think she added too much, and underestimated how sticky fresh rice is.

2009/09/21 Lunch

From 2009/09/21 Lunch

A mini Buddha Maker. You can see it's pretty much the same, but home made bread.

To be honest, I think I like the store Italian bread better. However, this meal, somehow, still makes me chill and sit back for a moment of pause.

2009/09/21

From 2009/09/21

Fresh bread. Always smells so good all day in the house, but it never rises quite enough for me. I don't usually finish a loaf anyway, though, partially because it gets hard after just a few days.

2009/09/16 Lunch

From 2009/09/16 Lunch

The Buddha Maker. Spinach, tomatoes, bree, paté, butter, mayo, and mustard. All inside fresh Italian bread.

This got it's name from Ryan, who called it this after I told him eating this put me at peace with myself and the world. I started to eat these soon after Ami, and would often find myself taking a long time, in a nice spot, thinking about life and enjoying my food. Also, it's cheap.

Pause to celebrate a new camera

Thanks to Rachel, I have managed to get a very nice SLR, Canon's Rebel XT, for $312. It's the same as Amanda's old camera, but now that she has the D300, I understand how much better a camera can be. All the same, I am excited to make the leap from old crappy to what you see here.

2009/09/13 Breakfast

From 2009/09/13 Breakfast

DeHaan breakfast with a broken egg and BBQ sauce.

Always good, I liked the BBQ with it, but it takes over too easily.

Hopefully the last picture with this really terrible $20 camera.

2009/09/10 Lunch

From 2009/09/10 Lunch

Pasta with Side Kicks™ plus spinach, tomatoes and egg. Apparently, this is near Maggie's birthday party.

This was a throw everything in, see what comes out. It was good, not great, but I'm sure I'll do it again because of how easy it is, and how it uses things up in the fridge.

2009/08/19 Supper 2

From 2009/08/19 Supper

Pork chops, same as 2009/08/16 breakfast. They were a bit thinner, and in for 14 minutes instead of 12. I didn't want to risk turning people off with pink meat, but didn't want to over do it either. The vegetables included zucchini this time, and a lot of things were fresh from DeHaan farms.

It was a hit, the kick was just as good again, and I have one left over. Yum. Thanks to Amanda and her D300 (50mm) for the great picture.

2009/08/19 Supper

From 2009/08/19 Supper:

Nachos. One layer carefully placed, covered with toppings, then another layer of chips and a final top layer of topping. Every chip had stuff on it, and there was not socially awkward "mega chip" with 40% of the stuff on it. Made by Josh also, good job.

This was part 1 of FancyFood I. Everyone loved them. We all knew there was a lot coming (pork chops and dessert) but somehow, we ate a lot of them, and still ate most of the rest of the courses.

2009/08/19 Breakfast

From 2009/08/19 Breakfast:

DeHaan breakfast. An egg, not flipped but with the yolk (and white) not runny at all. This on melted cheese on bread.

A classic, both from DeHaan farms and now the 144 as well. Best served with skim milk or OJ which is between 2 and 72 hours old.

2009/08/18 Supper

From 2009/08/18 Supper:

Chicken Packets. Rice (pre-cooked) garden beans, carrots and chicken pieces wrapped in tin foil then in the oven, 400F, for 25 minutes. Unwrap and eat. Yum.

Josh made this. He was living at my house in that time between his lease being up and having his thesis handed in. Very nice. I love cooking in tinfoil almost as much as using my steamer.

2009/08/17 Lunch

From 2009/08/17 Lunch:

Hard boiled egg with (real) soy sauce for dripping.

Simple. Healthy. Filling. This is the million dollar invention.

2009/08/16 Breakfast

From 2009/08/16 Breakfast:

Organic pork with salt, pepper, rosemary, thyme and garlic cloves. In the oven, 200C, for only 12 minutes.

The vegetables are onions, sweet red peppers, mushrooms, chili powder and tin of tomatoes. Simmer until it's pretty dry.

This is one of the best meals I've ever cooked. It's a practice run for FancyFood 1, and I'm very happy to serve this. Even by myself, I found myself making "mmm" sounds. The spicy kick is strange because it's so apparent, but also so mild. Everyone will taste it, no one will think it's too much.

2009/08/15 Supper

From 2009/08/15 Supper:

Pork and (fake) crab in noodles with egg mixed in. Garlic, dill and lots of parsley.

This is my worst picture yet. I want to buy a digital SLR. All this food looks good in real life, honest.

2009/08/14 Early supper

From 2009/08/14 Early supper:

This is a favorite of mine from bubble tea shops. Condensed milk over hot toast.

So simple, so tasty, also very filling. It's a bit of an art to eat.

2009/08/14 Breakfast

From 2009/08/14 Breakfast:

Yes, breakfast. Spagetti with pork meat balls in cream sause.

Wii fit told me to have a big breakfast and small meal at the end of the day. It's good advice, I felt full of energy all day.

2009/08/13 Supper

From 2009/08/13 Supper:

Pork simmered with green and yellow beans and carrots. Seasoned with sea salt (very unlike me), celery salt and garlic. Thickened with corn starch.

My pictures are going to be poor until I get a better camera.

What this will be

I am going to start posting what I eat if it is note worthy and I get a picture of it. I will also include a short run-down of what it is, but am unlikely to include enough detail to call it a recipe. I hope this shall encourage me to eat better, and also may serve as interesting to some who know me, want quick meal ideas or just enjoy reading about, and looking at, food. Enjoy.
